American tourist amazed at Songkran Festival - Songkran Festival - Tourist - Pattaya - Thai Tradition

I am a single woman and I planned this trip to Thailand to celebrate the Songkran Festival in Pattaya which this year was un-believable!!!!

I would highly recommend to any woman to come and experience Pattaya and Songkran. I was treated with the utmost respect and have never had any problem, or worried about my well being. It is funny the reactions I encountered with Thais whether a child, a man, a woman or an elderly person. In many ways when they saw me on the back of a truck all soaking wet, powder smeared on my face and enjoying all the sights, tastes and music, they took a double look and proceeded with caution as to whether or not to powder me up, or throw a bucket of water at me, or blast me with a water gun, but when I “wai” them and yelled happy Songkran - “Happy New Year” it was on from there!!!

Other reactions after seeing my participation were that I am a “target American-Farrang” and I am sure I was the talk of dinner time later that day on how they got an American woman during Songkran.

They always took the time to say “Hello Madame! How are you? Where do you come from?” and then friendly attack me with “Welcome to Thailand and bless you for the New Year.” I have the utmost respect for the way I was treated here and respect the Thai traditions and always have the most memorable time. They even held up dousing me with water if I was taking pictures or hopping off the back of the truck to dance in the street and helped me back on or brought me to their vehicle or stand and gave me a drink or a taste of some food. Thank goodness it hasn’t been any of the delicacies of bugs though.

Everyone even though so involved in their own celebration would take the time to assist me in anything I needed even though there was a communication gap, someone can always read the body language and would just drop what they were doing to help you out.

Pattaya Songkran Rocks!!!  It should be on every one’s dream list to do as it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and this year’s festival is the biggest one I’ve ever seen and experienced and I hope to be back again next year.

Thank you Pattaya!!!!  You always make me feel like a very special person whenever I visit here.

Thank you Pattaya Times for bringing us a great American news-paper to read while we are here on holiday or business and   I’m looking forward to your expansion of news!
