Tourism Development Office Studies Environmental Problems

The information was provided by Pattaya’s executives, business operators and local citizens. From the information collected long term solutions are being researched.

Professor, Doctor Sunee Mulikamarl the Director of the Institution of Thai Law said, “We realize that Pattaya is one of the most visited places in Thailand and problems that usually come with this is environmental problems, especially with regards to waste. We have joined together to figure out solutions to deal with the growing amount of waste as well as organize a project to handle other environmental issues that may affect tourism in Pattaya.”

Mr. Jumroon Wisachaipan, President of the Pattaya Business Tourism Association added, “In the past we have had problems with waste but now the situation is improving. We have been dealing with this issue by burying the waste underground though now we feel that there may be not enough places to bury waste anymore. This is why we have to come together to prepare to deal with this issue.”

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said, “It is expected that the areas to bury waste will fill up within three years. Pattaya will not look for new areas to bury waste but put the existing areas to good use.”

Professor Doctor Sunee added, “Even though the number of tourist has decreased because of the economic crisis, environmental issues are a topic we should not overlook. It might not be a huge problem right now but it is always best to prepare for the future. From the information we’ve gathered, we are sure to find possible solutions.”
