Australian artist Arlo Mountford stands up in Bangkok - Arlo Mountford - Australian - Arts - Animation


For the very first time Bangkok will host works by an Australian animation artist and filmmaker, Arlo Mountford. ‘The Hacienda Must is built’, an exhibition of animation and moving image works will be showcased from April 21 to May 30 at the Chulalongkorn University Art Center.



Graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, Mountford’s work has been featured in various solo and group exhibitions. In 2007 his work was a recipient of the prestigious ABN AMRO Emerging Artist Award. He recently completed from a residency at the Frank Mohr Institute, Groningen, Netherlands.

 

For his ninth solo exhibition and first international premiere, Mountford will present two major animations: ‘Return to Point’ (2006) and ‘STAND UP’ (2007). Mountford will also unveil a new work, ‘Return to Form: NDINAVIA’, a film shot Partially in Venice, Italy and the Victorian Alps in Australia.

 

Audiences of both Thai and foreigners will be stimulated and entertained by these accomplished animation and moving image works. Simultaneously inspired by, and questioning the art and artists of the twentieth century, Mountford has created sophisticated works, which represent well-known icons in a new and humorous way, investigating their importance whilst subtly conveying an underlying respect for the value of contemporary art.

 

Arts Victoria has provided funding for the exhibition. The Australian Embassy Bangkok is assisting with coordination and organization.
