More than 100 of Pattaya Police and Police Volunteers recently escorted two of the five men who staged a daring daylight robbery with assault rifles and black clothing with facemasks in paramilitary style on a Jomtien gold shop on May 4 to reenact their crime. The reenactment took place on May 6, at 11:00 am and attracted hundreds of onlookers to the former crime scene.

The food woman next door to the gold shop revealed to the reporters, “It was early in the morning, I have just opened my food shop and the gold shop was just opened as well. There were only two women inside the gold shop at that time. They were the owners’ two daughters. Everything happened really quickly.”

She continued, “I ran to the back of my shop and called the police immediately.”

The reenactment mirrored the CCTV footage from the gold shop cameras, which showed that during the armed raid two of the thieves jumped out of a fast moving car, ran into the shop, fired rounds from M16 assault rifles, jumped on the glass counters and smashed the glass wall displays and took most of the gold chains all in a matter of seconds. A third their stood watch outside while the fourth manned the get-away car. The fifth suspect, who planned the daring, daylight robbery stayed behind.

When asked by a reporter about why they robbed the gold shop, Mr. Kamon Sangperm replied with no emotions on his face, “Well, we did it because of the current economic problems. We have a tough life, what else can we do.”

So far, police who are still looking for the rest of the gold have recovered only 500,000 Baht worth of the stolen gold. The remaining two suspects are expected to be captured soon because Pattaya police are seriously working on this case and have vowed to capture the remaining suspects and return all the gold to the shop owner, a Pattaya police representative said. Pattaya police, by their swift action in solving this case are sending a warning to would-be thieves to think twice before committing crimes in Pattaya City.

One of the onlookers said, “I am very impressed to know that Pattaya police have already captured three men. It makes me feel safe living in Pattaya because the police here are seriously paying attention to crime suppression. On behalf of the people, I would like to applaud and thank the Pattaya Police for doing such an excellent job. ”

This was the most daring robbery in Pattaya since the bank robbery two years ago by Russian nationals with a Thai accomplice, who was all also caught by Pattaya Police.
