The 16th of May was deemed a prosperous day for three giant European leagues as Manchester United, Barcelona and Inter Milan won their respective English, Spanish and Italian league titles.

The Red Devils had to work hard to ensure a draw against Arsenal to gain one point to secure their title and receive the coveted Premiership trophy at their home ground, The Old Trafford Stadium. Liverpool and Manchester United both share the record of 18 league titles now but the latter also holds the record for two three-consecutive year titles in 1999 2000 and 2001, and 2007 2008 and 2009. The Red Devils are also competing in the UEFA Champions League Finals and will hope to attain an unprecedented quadruple trophy record.

Spain’s Barcelona had to wait a whole week before being announced the winner of the Spanish La Liga after they stumbled to a 3-3 draw against Villarreal at Camp Nou. Barcelona celebrated their 25th Copa Del Rey victory before Villarreal defeated Real Madrid to automatically endorse them as champions of the Spanish La Liga for the 19th time. Barcelona is also in the race to win an unparalleled triple trophy season, providing it defeat Manchester United in this season’s Champions League. Inter Milan, Italy’s leading Champions League record holder, won the Italian Calcio Serie A without much effort owing to AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Udinese. This is Inter Milan’s fourth consecutive Calcio Serie A title, which has broken the previous record held by Juventus in the 80s.
