Police Lieutenant Sutham Chaosrithong, deputy commander of Pattaya Police asks goldsmith entrepreneurs to cooperate with the initiatives

Police Lieutenant Sutham Chaosrithong, deputy commander of Pattaya Police chaired a meeting with the city’s goldsmiths, led by Mr. Somchai Manothaworn, President of Pattaya Goldsmith Association, to draft security measures for the proprietors and their businesses.

Chaosrithong stated, “This meeting is being held following the recent heist of Yaowarat Pattaya Gold shop in Jomtien by armed robbers. The incident received wide coverage by the media and garnered considerable attention from the public. It showed Pattaya in a bad light and this can affect tourism so we have to devise measures to prevent this incident from happening again.”

Chaosrithong continued, “The measures consist of installing hidden CCTV cameras in relevant areas as well as regularly monitoring the functionality of these security devices. Proprietors should also install a hidden emergency alarm button which when pressed within the shop will send a distress signal to a help center outside the store. In addition, automatic doors with steel grates should also be erected and shops are recommended to operate within the constraints of their working hours.

Employees should also be trained to be susceptible of the customers they are dealing with and owners should print stickers, which state the removal of caps and sunglasses before entering the shop. Should the vendor detect any irregularity in the customer or the merchandise being sold, he/ she should report the matter to Pattaya Police at once at 038 420 802~5, 038 424 186 or 191”

Manothaworn stated, “It is positive news that the police managed to apprehend the criminals quickly. The proprietors will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities on all issues. However, we still need to conclude on the opening and closing times of the shops. The Pattaya Goldsmith Association has awarded the injured police officer with a gift basket and 5,000 Baht prize money to help

Motivate him to continue performing his duty admirably.”
