Registering a used car in Thailand

Drew Noyes, PAPPA Co., Ltd, Legal and Visa Services 16.11.2009 20:30

If you can answer, please provide Info on car registration.

I want to buy a car from another expat and need to know what paperwork is needed. I am aware of the registration/green book.

I think from a prior purchase of a motorbike from an expat that I need a copy of his passport and copy of his visa paperwork which shows how long his is able to stay in Thailand, when he has to leave Thailand.

Is that correct??

Anything else I might need????

Thanks,
Darrel

The answer is both parties need to go to the transfer department where the car will be inspected and serial numbers will be checked. The car must be the original color or additional paperwork is needed.

Both parties need valid ID. Foreigners a passport and Thais and ID card.  The paperwork "car book" and valid government insurance must be in place. Buyer needs residency certificate validated by Immigration. The car must pass inspection. Lights, horn, etc. must work.
