HELPFUL LINKS & OTHER INFORMATION FOR PATTAYA

16.11.2009 20:00

On this page, we list various links or information that you may find of use in living in Thailand, Pattaya in particular. If you find any of the information to be inaccurate or broken links, please contact us. Also, if you have suggestions for additional information that you think will be useful, please contact us about it so that we may consider adding it to the website.

  • Obtaining Services - When obtaining services such as utilities, cable/satellite television, etc., you will most likely be asked to provide a photocopy of your passport identity page. Photocopied documents are usually required to be signed with your original signature, which is your certification that the document is a true copy of the original. In some cases, you may be asked to also provide photocopies of the latest visa/visa extension page. It is also possible that you may be asked for an Immigration letter certifying your address (see Driving License topic in Vehicle Section for details on getting this document). Also, if equipment is being installed at your residence, you may be asked to provide a copy of the house book (if renting, signed by the owner), e.g., True Visions Satellite TV service requires this document.

  • Electricity - Pattaya Electric Authority is located on Naklua Road opposite the Fire Department about 500 meters from Sukhumvit Road. Telephone: General information - 038-221-007 then “0”. Emergency 24-hour number - 038-426-463. New Service - 038-221-861.

CAUTION: Appliances designed for 110/120 volt current will not operate in Thailand without a transformer as the regular voltage for Thailand is 220-240v - Most electrical outlets will take different style plugs without the need of an adapter. If a transformer or adapter is needed, they can be obtained from local hardware stores.

  • Water - Pattaya Water Authority provides most of the water service in Pattaya. It is located on Soi Nongprue, East of Sukhumvit Road - go down the soi about 1 km, it is on the right. Some condominiums and villages have their own water supply. In times of short supply, the Water Authority may curtail delivery at different times. If you are renting or buying a house, it is a good idea to have a water tank and pump system, which will provide some water if the Water Authority curtails delivery. If the tank should run dry before water service is resumed, you can contact one of the many water trucks for a delivery to fill your water tank.

CAUTION: Remember that tap water here is only for washing & bathing, and NOT for drinking. Drinking water can be purchased at any of the local supermarkets or convenience stores. There are also water delivery services that can deliver water to your home.

  • Cable and/or Satellite Television - There are three cable TV providers for various areas of Pattaya/Banglamung. Satellite TV service is available from True Visions (formerly UBC).

    • UBC/True Visions offers satellite TV service to all of Thailand and cable television service to the Bangkok area. Fees vary depending on the package obtained. Visit their website for more information: http://www.truevisionstv.com/home.aspx

  • Pattaya Street Signs - Most streets and sois are marked with street signs showing their name in both Thai and roman letters. The roman letters show the Thai name for the road, e.g., Third road shows Chalom Phrakiat, North Road shows Pattaya Nua, Central Road shows Pattaya Klang, and South Road shows Pattaya Tai. Street signs for numbered sois will show the soi number and the name of the road - the two pictures shown here are (top) Soi 15 off of Pattaya Second Road and (bottom) Soi 5 off of Jomtien Beach Road.

  • Customs Duties and Shipping Household Goods to Thailand - If you plan to import items into Thailand, you should consult Thai customs officials directly or visit their website: http://www.customs.go.th/Customs-Eng/indexEng.jsp. If you are importing household goods when changing your residence to Thailand, Customs notes: It is important that the used/secondhand household effects must be imported not earlier than one month before or not later than six months after the arrival of the importers. Under exceptional circumstances, Customs may extend the time limits for the importers.Copies of Important Documents - Keep a photocopy of important documents in the event of loss. Having a photocopy of your passport (including Thai entry and extension stamps), driving license, etc. can facilitate their replacement in case of loss.

TIP: Establish a web based email service such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc. and attach a picture of your documents to an email sent to your web based service email address. In the event of loss, or if you are traveling, the information can readily be obtained by accessing your email service online. Or, you if you have subscribed to an online file storage service, you can keep the copies at that location.
