Hotel investors target South-East Asia

"Top global hotel brands & investors are targeting Thailand, Vietnam and other South-east Asian resorts," according to Mr. Robert McIntosh, Director of CBRE Hotels in the Asia-Pacific Region, who recently attended the CB Richard Ellis Southeast Asia Hotel Conference.

CBRE Hotels is the industry's premier provider of sales advisory, finance market research and valuation services to meet the capital needs of investors and individual owners of hotel properties. In 2008, the combined value of assets successfully sold and valued by CBRE Hotels was approximately US$ 36 billion.

CBRE Hotels now has a team in place covering Southeast Asian cities and resorts from Halong Bay in Vietnam, through Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia to Bali in Indonesia.

Working with the strong CB Richard Ellis local offices, particularly CB Richard Ellis Thailand's resort offices in Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya, CBRE Hotels can provide global investors with detailed local advice and in-depth knowledge of local markets.

The Hotels group has already concluded some impressive transactions for both local landowners and international clients in Thailand.

So far in 2009, CBRE Hotels has successfully closed four major transactions in Phuket and Phang Nga provinces, acquiring not only existing hotels but selling and arranging joint ventures for key resort sites.

The benefit for global hotel developers is the local ability to secure properties and sites while Phuket and Phang Nga also benefit, as top quality international operators will provide the hotel product and management that will attract high value visitors to these provinces. This, in turn, enables the local economy to develop and the transactions concluded by CB Richard Ellis in these provinces in 2009 will create about 5,000 new jobs.

CB Richard Ellis also has offices in Da Nang, Vietnam, where it tracks over 47 key sites in Da Nang and the surrounding provinces, advising on acquisitions, joint ventures, and resort design.

CBRE Hotels has been instructed to offer an unrivaled 900 rai (350 acres) site on the island of Pangkor off the west coast of Malaysia. The site has unspoiled beaches and virgin rain forest, suitable for a luxury resort.

This outstanding site will be marketed at a road show in the Middle East in late November, led by Mr. David Simister, Chairman of CB Richard Ellis Thailand and Vietnam, working with the CB Richard Ellis Middle Eastern network.
