Pattaya Times Voted the Best Newspaper in the East
Award-winning Pattaya newspaper gets support from Bangkok ad agency and readers
An independent poll taken in November of 3,200 foreign and Thai consumers in Pattaya revealed the Pattaya Times is the newspaper most used when making a decision about where to shop, eat, drink and stay in Pattaya. 74% of those who answered the survey said the Pattaya Times has the most news and ads influencing them in making decisions on purchases. 86% of the respondents said the content, 76% said the photos and 92% said the graphics were superior to other local newspapers. 68% said the standard-size format made the Pattaya Times superior to the other tabloid newspapers in Pattaya.
Of the reasons why the Pattaya Times was preferred over other newspapers the Number 1 answer was the lack of crime and traffic accident photos and articles. Number 2 was the "News You Can Use" slogan really lives up to its claim. Number 3 was the overall look and feel of the Pattaya Times was similar to the newspapers they read in their home country or in Thai.
Only the Bangkok Post 34% and Pattaya Mail 32% ranked higher in name awareness. Pattaya Times, only one year old, ranked a solid third with 27%.
Also, a leading Bangkok advertising agency recently concluded that the Pattaya Times newspaper is the most effective way to promote products or services available in Pattaya.
Following the successful ad campaign of the "Snowy Mountain" brand bottled water from Australia, which only advertised in the Bangkok Post in Bangkok and the Pattaya Times in Pattaya, a significant increase in brand awareness and overall sales, much higher than anticipated, was attributed to the strength of the readership of the two local newspapers.
This survey and the opinion of the leading advertising agency in Bangkok follow the Eastern Mass Media Association awarding the Pattaya Times the "Best of All Media" in the entire Eastern Seaboard in any language at promoting Pattaya and the region in a positive way.
Google, the Undisputed King of the Internet, says in its AdWords section, "local newspapers are the most effective way to advertise. 68% of all purchase decisions on the local level are made from reading a local newspaper."
The editor of the Pattaya Times, Mrs. Wanrapa Boonsu said, "Anyone can run a local paper by sitting next to a police band radio and following crime and accident stories, or subscribe to AP for content, but what good does that serve? Pattaya is in the business of entertainment. Almost everyone here makes a living directly or indirectly from tourism and domestic entertainment, dining, shopping and such. The news in Pattaya Times is local. It is positive without ducking from problems - however solutions are considered to problems of traffic, low tourism and politics. We focus on events, opportunities, successes, good people and Karma. Pattaya needs this. It's all about making a good reputation for our city and a solid forum for our advertisers to reach customers."
