Department of Employment defines work permit renewal period for Burmese, Laotian, and Cambodian workers
Mr. Pichai Expitakdamrong, Director-General of Department of Employment, revealed according to the cabinet’s resolution on December 18, 2007, the government has allowed 501,570 Burmese, Laotian, and Cambodian workers to temporarily stay in Thailand for a period of time awaiting deportation and to work until February 28, 2010. There were 310,149 foreign workers whose work permits will expire on June 30. Therefore, employers must take their alien workers to file for medical check-ups during May 22 - June 30.
For Bangkok areas, medical check-ups will be provided at Rajavithi Hospital, Nopparat Rajathanee Hospital, Lerdsin Hospital, Central Hospital, BMA Medical College and Vajira Hospital, Taksin Hospital, Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital, and Bangkok Hospital. For provincial areas, government hospitals will be responsible for medical check-ups. Medical check-up fee is 600 Baht and Health insurance fee is 1,300 Baht and the total is 1,900 Baht.
Foreign workers have to apply for work permit renewal at Bangkok Employment Offices 1-10 and Provincial Offices of Employment during June 1-30. Foreign workers must also prepare an employment quota document, a medical certificate or a receipt of medical examination, a former work permit license, a copy of employer’s identification card or a copy of certificate of incorporation, a letter of affidavit (in case of authorization) affixed with 10 Baht duty stamp and application fee 100 Baht including 1,800 Baht for work permit fee per one year which the total is 1,900 Baht.
Department of Employment also requests employers and businesses to bring their foreign workers of Burmese, Laotian, and Cambodian nationalities to apply for work permit renewal within the specific period.
