Grammy Winners Ozomatli share their musical message of peace and diversity with Thailand
In addition to live performances in Bangkok and Pattaya, this one-of-a-kind group of talented musicians also shared their positive message of peace and diversity through special outreach programs in Bangkok with underprivileged youth from the Mercy Centre and in Pattaya with children from Pattaya Orphanage, the Child Protection and Development Center, Pattaya School for Deaf Children, and the Redemptorist Vocational School for the Disabled.
During their special private performance children and teens hosted at Pattaya Orphanage, Ozomatli opened the stage to some young aspiring musicians for an impromptu jam session that brought the energetic crowd to their feet. Making a special appearance on trombone during the group’s free public concert at CentralWorld in Bangkok was U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Eric John and his son, Adam, who also sat in on guitar.
Based in Los Angeles, California, Ozomatli is renowned for both their high-energy live performances and the diversity of their music, which weaves together a magical mix of languages, ethnic and cultural influences, musical genres, and instruments to create a memorable and moving fusion of hip hop, salsa, cumbia, dub, Middle Eastern funk, and beyond. The multi-ethnic makeup of the band also reflects the diverse nature of U.S. society and inspires a sound that serves to builds bridges between diverse cultures, like the U.S. and Thailand.
As U.S. Department of State Cultural Ambassadors, Ozomatli has brought its unique brand of music to Asia, Africa, Latin-America and the Middle East. Ozomatli’s visit to Thailand was the last leg in their 2009 Asia tour which also brought them to Burma and Vietnam. Their performances in Thailand were made possible by generous support from CentralWorld, Coca Cola, Amway, Conrad Bangkok, and GMM Grammy.
