Thailand’s 11th annual Grand Sale has kicked off for the year and run straight through August, hoping to draw international travelers who not only want the tourist attractions but are also ready to buy up big.

Partnering with VISA this year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that VISA holders will be able to enjoy special benefits and promotions in 12 destinations around Thailand.

“As the Official Card of the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2009, we believe strongly in supporting the Royal Thai government and Tourism Authority of Thailand in promoting and re-building the tourism industry in Thailand,” said Stuart Tomlinson, Visa Malaysia Country Manager.

One offers any tourist who charges 500 baht or more on their VISA card during the sale, eligible to win some Prima Gold in a lucky draw, with 100 prizes up for grabs.

Other promotions include special prizes and exclusive benefits VISA cardholders can access include offers from airline, hotels, department stores, golf courses, spas, shopping malls and even tour operator partners.

Already Air Astana, Kuwait Airways, EL AL Israel Airlines and Jet Airways have announced that tourists will enjoy an additional 10 kilo baggage allowance on outbound flights from Thailand during the Great Sale period.

“Tourism is such an important element in Thailand's GDP. The Thai Cabinet is very keen to see more initiatives that serve as a catalyst for domestic spending,” notes Dale Lawrence, PATA Director Corporate Communications. The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2009 will run until August 31.
