New Continental Automotive plant is opens in Amata City.

Continental Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Germany-based Continental AG, one of the world’s top five automotive suppliers, recently opened a plant in the eastern province of Rayong.

Located at Amata City, the company’s first plant was built with an investment of Approximately 5 billion baht and will produce Power train diesel injectors, high pressure pumps and common rail assemblies. In future, interior electronics will be produced at the plant.

The company’s first lot of export will be for markets in China, India and Europe this month. It will start supplying its products to the Thai market in 2010 and, according to the company’s plan, 70% of the total output will be for the Thai market and the rest for India and Europe.

Managing Director Thomas Chambers of Continental Automotive (Thailand) said that although the economic situation is not bright, his company decided to invest as it considers that the Asian market can still grow at a high rate.

Thailand ,said Mr. Chambers, is the automotive hub for ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and also the company’s production base for export to other countries.
