Thailand’s first hybrid car unveiled in Pattaya - Toyota Motor Company - Car - Camry Hybrid - Toyota - Hybrid


The Eastern Seaboard is leading Thailand in manufacturing the frst hybrid car for sale to the public. Assembled at the Toyota Motor Company plant here in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate the new car will deal with the current environmental crisis by offering an alternative energy choice for drivers and spur the economy by increasing manufacturing output at the plant.



According to the Toyota Motor Company spokesman, “The Toyota Camry Hybrid was introduced as “a vehicle for the future” since it has been developed to achieve improved fuel economy and reduced emissions while delivering an even more distinctive driving performance.”

He added, “The Camry Hybrid will be officially launched in late July where those interested can express their wishes to experience the ownership of such prestigious vehicle at the 120 Toyota dealers nationwide.”

Toyota Motor Company expects to reach 1,000 units per month in sales within 2010. The latest Camry Hybrid is only about a 100,000 baht more expensive than the normal Camry which runs on gasoline, he said.

The Minister of Industry, the Chairman of the Nation newspaper and the Managing Director of the Pattaya Times, joined Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, former MP Chanyut Hengtrakool and other Pattaya dignitaries to support Toyota Motor Company in its debuting of Thailand’s frst alternative energy saving automobile, the Camry Hybrid. The unveiling was at a seminar on green energy held in Pattaya at the Dusit Thani Resort.

The Thai government under the guidance of the Minister of Industry Mr. Chanchai Chairungrueng established a program to help many industrial producers to be concerned about environmental problems under the theme of “Starting in 3 Months, Success in 6 Months.”

The main objective is to get all industrial producers to create and increase employment, profits and productivity as well as to be friendly with surrounding communities and environments.

Executive Assistant Managing Director of Toyota Motor (Thailand) Company Limited, Mr. Vichian Emprasertsook, revealed that Toyota is the first company who brought in hybrid technology to Thailand. The new Camry hybrid car operates using both Gas and Electrical motors in cooperation together which effectively saves carbon energy and increases driving distance. The motor for the sales campaign is “Drive intelligent, drive hybrid.”

Minister Chanchai mentioned that Thailand industry is too dependent on gasoline energy which pollutes.

Therefore, Thailand needs to release itself from being influenced by gas as much as possible by supporting and discovering other alternative sources of energy such as clean energy fuel, natural and renewable energies, bio diesel, and natural gas. In addition, this will support people to use all energy sources according to the industrial  management’s concept of Green Industry. The Hybrid car production directly affects national green industry development,” the Minister of Industry said.

The new hybrid car was unveiled at a seminar held at the Dusit Thani Hotel – Pattaya, presided over by Ministry of Industry, Mr. Chanchai Chairungrueng, who also discussed the topic of “Enhance Thai Industry by Green Industrial Management.”

This Green Move…Green Energy Project will be operated by Toyota Motor Company and the Bangkok Business Group, and will be held in different regions across Thailand, he said.

However, this event was attended by many representatives in different fields as well as executive management within the Eastern region of Thailand, he added.   

Furthermore, all industrial producers need to pay more attention to the substantial Green concept by emphasizing increasing employment, income, and happiness accordingly to the policy of “Starting in 3 Months Success in 6 Months”. This policy will be launched and campaigned by the government by the end of this year,” he concluded
