PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s
The day started out being controversial, as several of the golfers were nervous about the prospects for rain and lightning, but the morning was sunny and beckoning. So we trundled out to Khao Kheow, renowned as a very difficult course. We had a 10 am teetime, but when we got there there was a large group of vacationing Aussies ahead of us. All summerlong, we have had the courses almost to ourselves, but not this day. In spite of our fears, the weather held, but not so our scores, which were ravaged by KK. We played off the yellow tees and struggled on most holes to make the greens in regulation.
This was an important day, because the prestigious "Alan Bolton Golfer of the Month" was up for grabs with the Captain and Mashi in the running. On one of the holes, our Captain made a comment about the "mentally inert", but our correspondent reminded him that in fact he is a magnet for the mentally inert and he shouldn't judge everybody just by those around himself. But enough philosophy for today, since in other areas of the course the drama of who would be "Golfer of the Month" was being played out.
Perry McNeely (PSC Golf Chairman) and Mashi Kenata.
It took us three and a half hours to finish the first nine holes, but then things really speeded up and it only took us another two and a half to finish. Our Captain said that in so many years of organizing competitions in Pattaya, never had he played a round as long as six hours. And then on top of that, Mashi won just enough points to edge our Captain out of the "Alain Bolton Golfer of the Month" and the prize shoe bag.
Winners:
1st Dick Warberg 35 pts
2nd Rob Brown 35 pts
3rd Mashi Kenata 34 pts
"Alain Bolton Golfer of the Month"
4th Per Olaf Baarli 33 pts
Near Pins: Don Carmody, Gavin Kelly, Homma-san, Rob Brown Long Putts: Frank Pilkington, Perry McNeely
