On November 2, Pattaya City hosted a traditional "Loy Krathong Festival". Thais and foreigners, alike, were delighted by the colors and lights that were an essential ingredient of the festival.

Pattaya City, in association with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, organized this year’s Loy Krathong celebration at Bali Hai Pier, South Pattaya. Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, as chairman, officially began the celebration along with Pattaya City administrators and local citizens.

The lively Loy Krathong celebration featured a Loy  Krathong Young Star Beauty Contest, a Loy Krathong Pageant Competition, traditional Thai performances, a concert by rock legend, ‘Modern Dog’ and an appearance by Thai singing sensation, ‘Namcha.’

There were also booths selling inexpensive hand made products, as well as, delicious food.

Loy Krathong, considered one of the most important days on the Thai calendar, celebrates the end of rainy season and honors the goddess of the river and the water
ways, Mae Nam. Loy means to float. A kratong, a small basket made from banana leaves and decorated with flowers, candles and incense, is placed in water to float away. By paying their respects, people hope that there will be an abundant supply of water during the coming year.
