TAT asks Thais to travel and boost business

Woraphan Akaboot 15.07.2009 20:30

Tourism bosses will encourage Thais to explore their own country as part of a new promotional drive. Chairman of the Pattaya Tourism Committee Mr. Veerasak Kowsurat said the domestic tourism plan this year would focus on domestic issues by campaigning for domestic tourists to travel.

This will emphasize to all Thai citizens how important it is to travel in the country, and the campaign will explain the benefits of traveling inland. In addition, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will celebrate its 50th anniversary under the theme of “50 Prestigious Years”.

New technology using GPS internet on mobile phones will be launched simultaneously with many travel packages. This will allow marketing opportunities for interested parties to exhibit their products directly to consumers.

The yearly plan also targets expanding the marketing boundary of lifestyle products for Thai people in both classic and modern classifications. The main objective is to symbolize the unique marketing points so tourists easily recognize products. This will also create extra opportunities for products to be well known worldwide as well as maintaining their quality so they are sustainable and accepted by consumers. Every operating system will be used carefully in all political, social, and economical concerns, and more attention will be paid to environmental issues.

Veerasak explained the necessary management for the five tourism regions of Thailand, and added that each region needed to operate uniquely and individually. The central region’s marketing strategy will focus on Bangkok’s ‘Historical Presentation’ with a project called “Transfer Passenger” providing a special marketing strategy under the theme of “Bangkok Flashback”. Among the planned events is one called “Turn Back Time Project”, and “Traveling alongside Your Heart”.

Aside from this, there will be many other interesting events to fulfill every traveller’s desire, such as Driving Happy with GPS, or Life’s Bonus. The Eastern region is marketing strategy will promote the beautiful coastal scenery while events will include beach cleaning, a turtle releasing project, mangrove tree planting project, and using the outstanding local fruits to symbolize the region.

In the Northern region, marketing will focus on traditional cultures as well as the beautiful forest scenery. The Western region will promote forestry, under the theme of “A Civilization Journey” and will encourage tourists to use western Thailand as an interchange station to neighboring countries. Western region marketing will also highlight the abundant forests and beautiful clean beaches.

In the Northeast, this region will be set up as a cultural learning center. One project will be the ‘Amazing I-san Fair’, and the ‘I-san Romance’ in the rainy season, plus many more cultural programs. Another interesting marketing plan in 2010 is to expand trade in the Middle East and South Asia by using the 7 Wonder Products as the key to attracting those customers.

Important projects include the Amazing Thailand Wedding and the Amazing Thailand MICE. Regarding India, Eastern Asia, Europe and America, the plan will focus on introducing Thailand’s trading efficiency by organizing ‘Online Festivals’ according to consumer trends, such as the Hispanic Asian Ethnic and Sports and Adventure. One event to look out for will be the ‘Buzz on Amazing Thailand’ through a Thai network, and the ‘Media Mega Farm Trip 2010’.
