US Ambassador Eric G. John addressed independence and strong relations with Thailand since 1833 at a US Independence Day celebration held at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok.

The celebration marks America's fight with Great Britain against imperialism and outside interference with affairs of state and as celebrated in America as a day of freedom of governance and marks the beginning of the world's longest lasting democracy.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.

After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, one of the worlds most profound and quoted documents, as a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.

The Bangkok celebration was well attended by foreign diplomats from many countries representative posted here in Thailand and was well attended by the various government officials here in Thailand. Representatives from Pattaya included Embassy Wardens Bobby Brooks and Gary Hacker who are based in Pattaya.

Following this event there were two daytime events on the 3rd and 4th of July, with celebrations in which all the various nationalities living or visiting Thailand could attend and enjoy American style barbecues, rides, and shows for the children.
