Prepaid electric bills may save hassles and money

Thongchai Poojareon 15.07.2009 21:30

Pattaya is one of only four areas in Thailand participating in a unique program where electricity users can add as much money as they want into a new Smart Meter Card to prepay this reoccurring expense and at the same time check how much of their electric power is being use or wasted, announced Mr. Narit Srinuan Deputy Governor of Provincial Electricity Authority said at the opening ceremony of the Prepayment Meter Plan introduction provided by Regional Electricity Authority recently.

This is good news for foreigners who come and go from their homes in Thailand. Sometimes without much notice due to work schedules out of country. The disappointment of returning home with no electricity due to a small-unpaid bill and the hassle of getting power resorted and paying for the return of the electrical meter could all be worries of the past if this new program works.

Pattaya Times contacted the local electrical office and they said the announcement was made, but Bangkok has not yet sent them the equipment, though they think the program will begin shortly.

Mr. Narit Srinuan said Provincial Electricity Authority authorized Provincial Electricity Authority Pattaya, Provincial Electricity Authority Rayong, Provincial Electricity Authority Rangsit and Provincial Electricity Authority Prathumthani (Banggradi) to be the early target areas for this plan.

He added, “This is a great way to save money and not have to worry about the monthly bill for users. Furthermore, it will alert customers whenever there are any troubles happening by excess electric power or obstruction. After a warning alert, power will cut off automatically for safety. Therefore, it is a combination of power checking and circuit breaker safety as well.”

Interested people can contact the Provincial Electricity Authority during normal office hours at 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) at the office located on Sawang Fa Road in Naklua near the Banglamung Police Station, which is located on Sukhumvit Highway. The phone numbers are 038 221 007 and 038 222 085.

In addition, Mr. Ronnakit Ekasingh, Pattaya Deputy Mayor, Mr. Charnyut Hengtrakul, former MP of Chonburi Province, and Mr. Somsak Pitthayapongporn, Director of Pattaya Electricity Office participated in the opening ceremony at the Town in Town Hotel.
