The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) introduced the poster boy for their new tourism promotion, trendy singer and actor Nichkhun. Reacting to dismal tourism numbers, TAT is betting that the handsome and popular performer will appeal to young travelers everywhere.

21-year-old Nichkhun Horvejkul turns heads of not only every youngster in Thailand, but also those in Korea as well where he currently performs. He is one of the most popular pop singers in Southeast Asia these days. Says TAT Deputy-Governor for Marketing Communication Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa “He is handsome, charming, and talented and speaks perfect Thai, English and Korean and is beginning to learn Mandarin.”

She goes on to say “He is becoming TAT's new 'idol' for the promotion of the kingdom. A comedic style video that shows Nichkhun playing golf, eating a lobster, practicing Muay Thai Boxing and splashing water during Songkran festivities will be displayed in the Korean market. The tagline of the campaign is “Come to Thailand; Let's Take a Break!” and it will be promoted on a specific website.

Mrs. Juttaporn added that TAT is aiming at the Asian youth market which is very flexible. Most young Asians are interested in making short, fun and adventurous trips and Nichkhun will help in reaching this important market sector, which, of late has been hit hard by internal and external factors such as the economic recession, political instability and the deadly H1N1 (swine flu) virus.
