Traffic jam woes set to end - Sukhumvit - Traffic - Lights - Problem

Action is being taken to prevent major traffic snarl-ups caused by faulty traffic lights on Sukhumvit.

The Commission of Civil and Public Facility Department held talks about the traffic jams along North Pattaya on Sukhumvit and nearby junctions. Experts agreed to change two of three traffic lights to solve the issue.

Mr. Banlue Kunlawanit revealed that the traffic flow along Sukhumvit currently has major problems because the traffic lights on three junctions are open for too long, especially during rush hour. This has caused other traffic to be held up. The lights are at the Chaiyaporn Vithi, Pattaya 3 School, and Sawang Boriboon junctions. In addition, the traffic light control systems were poorly set up.

Pattaya official Mr. Thongchai Ardsong said that before, traffic along the three junctions was smooth as the traffic light system had been well planned and set up properly. But the current traffic situation was awful because the police, though trying to help, had opened the lights too frequently. People are suffering because traffic police mistakenly put many inappropriate plans into place. Therefore, Pattaya Traffic Engineering officials and related organizations need to urgently work together to find solutions for this problem.

The meeting decided to just use the lights at the Chaiyaporn Vithi junction, and the other two will be reset and readjusted. It is hoped this will ease the traffic problems along this area.
