Leading scientists from around the world will come to celebrate several special anniversaries.



The Congress on Science and Technology Thailand will mark its 35th anniversary with a special gathering on October 15. Hosting the seminar will be Burapha University, whose Faculty of Science is also celebrating its 35th anniversary.

 

The event will focus on “Science and Technology for a Better Life”. It also happens to be the 30th anniversary of the Science and Technology Ministry.

 

Chonburi Governor Senee Jittakasem said the 35th Academic Meeting of Science and Technology Thailand would be the biggest ever held in Thailand. It will be supported by the Science Association of Thailand and the Thai government, the latter of which will provide facilitates and accommodations to help the event run smoothly.

 

Professor Dr. M.R. Jisnuson Svasti, chairman of the Science Association of Thailand, said the association worked with 24 central and regional government universities each year to conduct scientific activities and had been doing such work for the past 35 years. The seminar will allow senior and junior scientists to exchange scientific points of views, and improve their scientific knowledge. The seminar will also highlight the importance of science in the wider community.

 

Associate Professor Dr. Napawan Nopparattanapron, seminar chairwoman, said the event would feature more than 800 innovative inventions from Thai scientists in 18 different fields. The exhibition will also show how to use scientific knowledge to benefit everyday living.

 

Visitors will also get a glimpse of tomorrow, as thousands of scientific products and new technology will be featured.

 

Among the international guests will be Italian Professor Dr. Katepalli Raju Sreenivasan from the Aerospace Engineering Field, Professor Emmanuel Tsesmelis, of the Physics Field from CERN in Switzerland, Professor Dr. Paruchuri Gangadhar Pao, of the Chemical Engineering Branch in India and Professor Young Hoon Park, of the Biochemical Engineering Branch in Korea.

 

Associate Professor Dr. Thararat Supasiri, vice chairwoman, said many of the achievements of the participating 24 universities would also be displayed. Amateur scientists are welcome to submit scientific works to be selected and displayed in the exhibition.

 

Asst.Prof. Dr. Usawadee Tantiwaranurak, Dean of Science Faculty, Burapha University, said that it was a good opportunity for the university to host STT 35 because it was an established centre, both domestically and internationally, for debate and for new ideas.

 

The opening ceremony will take place on October 15, will be chaired by HRH Princess Chakkri Sirindhorn at The Tide Resort, Bangsaen.
