Around 100 companies in Pattaya are due to take part in fire-fighting training sessions.

Chief of Public Works Office Mr. Surapol Sawasvichian told Pattaya Times that the Fire Department had offered to give organizations knowledge on how to deal with fire by giving basic instructions and showing people how to use fire extinguishers. By providing frequent fire drills, the Pattaya Fire Department has already helped reduce the number of serious fires.

He continued, “Pattaya firefighters aim to educate people on how to survive a fire before help arrives, which is important given the current traffic problem that slow firefighters getting to the scene. People and employees working in a building need to know how to deal with a situation calmly, yet decisively. Damage caused by fires in Pattaya has decreased noticeably since the Fire Department provided a mobile service to train people on dealing with fire. We expect more than 100 organizations will be trained by the Pattaya Fire Department this year."

Central Festival Pattaya Beach held a Fire Exercise Drill on July 23 that included a simulated fire.

The fire drill simulated a ground floor fire in the food area. All staff and management had to gather at a set area behind the building. After a headcount to ensure all workers had been evacuated, any injured parties would then be taken to hospital.

The exercise was operated in line government policy that requires business owners to organize fire escape exercises at least once a year. In addition, all fire extinguishing equipment was checked and all security guards were told to be alert and to look for any fire risks around them at all times. The exercises also trained staff and management to follow certain procedures in the case of an emergency.

The emergency number in Thailand for fire is 199.
