Suvarnabhumi Airport, from now on, will seriously crackdown unlicensed Taxis and tour guides.

Reports in the international press and on official international government website have resulted in a concentrated crackdown on unlicensed taxis and tour guides, baggage theft and duty free shop scams at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva inspected the airport on Sunday, and demanded that airport officials to take action against problem areas. Measures taken will include installing more security cameras and for baggage handlers to have uniforms without pockets to reduce baggage theft. Nearly 300 unlicensed taxi drivers and tour guides have been arrested. Duty Free Shops were ordered to clearly display prices, and to clearly mark their boundaries after many international travelers have been falsely accused of shoplifting and then taken away to be pressured into handing over thousands of baht to avoid being charged.

The PM stated that the measures were necessary so that tourists could feel safe at the airport after a lot of negative publicity especially with the current downturn in tourist arrivals.
