Thais Travel Thailand to lead tourism recovery

By encouraging Thais to travel locally, it is hoped that tourism businesses can survive now and prosper when the international tourism market improves along with the world economy.

The government has significantly helped the tourism sector by offering soft loans for small and medium enterprises and has recently moved to waive the 10 per cent excise duty on spa businesses, which makes up a significant part of Thai tourism. Loans valued at over 2 billion baht have been approved helping over one thousand tourism related businesses survive the current crisis and save thousands of jobs.
