Couple arrested and fined for having "Sex on the Beach"

The couple (names withheld as a courtesy by Pattaya Times in respect of possible Islamic law ramifications) was charged with indecency and were fined 500 baht each and released with a cautionary plea for discretion.

Police Captain Chamrasthong Jinda said he making his normal rounds by motorcycle to perform a routine check on the beach. At about 4:30 am he was amazed to see a crowd on the beach. They were all laughing and watching a couple in a Kama Sutra marathon on the beach.

Some of the tourists were shooting video clips with their mobile phones which added to the couples problems since video taping or photos of sexual acts is strictly prohibited in the Kingdom and is said to lead people who may view such carnal actions on the internet to believe that sex is rampant in Pattaya.

The police officer walked on the beach and the couples were still going at it so he politely stopped them, had they put their clothes on and took them to the police station.

The Iranian man told police that he did not know that it was illegal to have sex in public place in Pattaya. One of the audience participants on the beach in the crowd laughed that the show was indeed illegal and there was not anyone their to serve drinks.

Another lady who saw the couple in action said that they probably had no idea that so many people would be around at 4:30 in the morning since bars close at 2:00 am.

A Thai bartender who was asked about this incident said he had no idea the drink could lead people to do such a thing and seemed a bit amazed at the power of suggestion.
