Internal Security Act to be in Force for 15th ASEAN Summit to be held in Phetchaburi and Pradchuap Kiri Khan Provinces
The ASEAN Summit will be held in Phetchaburi and Pradchuap Kiri Khan Provinces from October 23-31. Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Suthep Thaugsuban said that the government has prepared to institute the Internal Security Act during the meetings and that Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwon would be in charge of security.
Soldiers will work with the police force to insure that ASEAN leaders are well protected.
“The Security act will be implemented immediately if the red-shirt protesters rally when the summit takes place,” added Mr. Thaugsuban.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva stated that supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), which is said to be planning a rally in Cha-Am and Hua Hin Provinces this weekend, will not be allowed to enter the venue where the meeting is being held.
“We want to eliminate any risk of attacks on the participants and with the Internal Security Act already imposed on those two areas, I believe that the meeting will end in success and there will be no need for any violence,” added Mr. Vejjajiva.

UDD supporters are reportedly planning to submit a letter to the regional leaders claiming that the government used unnecessary force to stop protestors during the April riots in Pattaya which ended
the previous summit.
Mr. Vejjajiva continued, “They will not be allowed to submit their letter at the summit venue, but I would send a representative to receive it, if they don’t mind.”
Mr. Vejjajiva assured that the Internal Security Act has been invoked and that security officials have been situated for many days now. So, citizens need not worry about the security situation.
