Government of Japan donate funds to help Pai Hospital in Maehongsorn province
Junko Yokota, Consul-General of Japan in Chiang Mai recently signed a funding contract with the director of Pai Hospital in agreement that the Japanese government will provide an ambulance and equipment for the Pai hospital.
Many people in Maehongsorn province are suffering from chronic malnutrition, food poisoning, parasitic diseases and malaria. This is because Maehongsorn is a surrounded by mountains and the people are living in a poor environment on farmland with no electricity or water supply. They are also faced with intense heat in the summer and a freezing winter that can go below five degrees Celsius.
Pai Hospital is the only non-private hospital in Pai. It treats about 200 patients per day at no cost. The hospital also offers mobile services for people in remote areas and ambulance transportation for people within the three to 100 kilometers range. If the case is too severe for Pai Hospital, these ambulances will also transfer the patients to Chiang Mai hospital that is 130 kilometers away.
However, Pai Hospital does not currently have enough ambulances to fully provide all patients with this service.
Therefore, by having the Japanese government lending a hand to provide the hospital with one ambulance, four WD pick-up trucks as well as one Automated External Defibrillator (AED) patients at Pai Hospital will surely not be deprived of quick medical treatment.
