Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has a plan to leave the country to New York on September 15, said he has already appointed Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Tueksuban to be in charge during the period he is absent.

Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, will have to leave the country for a while in order to attend the 64th United Nations General Assembly in New York which opens on September 15. He said he was not afraid that being out of the country would bring any political changes in the country during his absence.

The Thai Prime Minister recently said that the government had asked the concerned agencies, related to tourism and economy, to explain to foreign investors the current political situation, as the government has recently decided to use the Law and Order Maintenance Center of the Internal Security Act (ISA) to control red-shirt people while they were gathering up around the Bangkok’s Dusit district area. However, most foreign investors understood the need to use the ISA, but some sectors believed that if the violence could be prevented, it would help stabilize the country.

Concerning the matter of the previous prime minister: Thaksin was deposed by the military-led Council for National Security (CNS) as he attended the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2006, Abhisit said that he must carry out his duty to attend the UN meeting and the upcoming G20 summit to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, as the chairman of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Abhisit revealed that he was not afraid that being out of the country just for a while will bring any political changes and he has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Tueksuban to be in charge during the period he is absent.
