Pattaya City roads and engineering department continues to identify and implement much-needed traffic improvements at dangerous intersections.

In a move to repair all the traffic lights, which are not properly timed or are not working properly, City engineers are working hard to solve these important problems, which lead to accidents and slowed traffic.

It was found that the problems were mostly caused by the traffic lights’ control system operation that has been set up incorrectly for the times of day and traffic flow. Other problems occur because of drivers and motorcycle riders who do not obey traffic regulations.

Traffic light problems on the east side of Sukhumvit Road along the Chaiyaporn Vithi Road to the Sawang Boriboon Foundation's intersection continue to cause traffic chaos as was previously reported in the Pattaya Times newspaper.

Pattaya City management recently held a meeting to discuss the problem with the Traffic Engineering Management Office and have decided to add more traffic signs along the entire road in order to control traffic and reduce accidents.

The changes will start by having all vehicles traveling one-way during the rush hour and turn right into Soi Chaiyaporn Vithi, in order to gradually educate commuters about the new traffic regulations.

Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronnakit Ekasingh said he has already commanded the Traffic Light Engineering Office to immediately reconsider traffic management in the area as well as fixing the problem of unclear signage and has commanded the relevant offices to provide and adjust the traffic signs immediately.

Pattaya Public Works Director, Pichet Uthaiwattananont, explaining that many people have complained about traffic problems along the Chaiyaporn Vithi road.

Pattaya Council Member Sanit Boonmachai added that the major problems along these areas are caused by inappropriate traffic signs and the traffic lights’ control system, which was ineffective. Instead of assisting traffic flow, they actually caused many problems to occur, he said. Therefore, the traffic engineering office must re-examine the causes of the problems in order to set up an operation system that effectively manages the flow of traffic.

Pattaya Public Works Director Mr. Phichet Uthaiwattananont revealed that Pattaya City has received many complaints submitted by tourists and residents who travel along the Chaiyaporn Vithi Road, which leads to the Mabprachan Dam about the intersection at Chaiyaporn and Sukhumvit Roads.

In addition, there have been many complaints about the intersection at Sukhumvit and Sawang Fha Roads and about the Sukhumvit Soi Phongam to Sawang Boriboon stretch.
