Thai Premier League 2009 latest updates: Thai Premier League’s Muang Thong United and Chonburi FC go Head to Head
Chonburi FC this year will have to compete to Muang Thong United for Thai the Thai Premier League championship match under the Head-to-Head rule.
This season is Thai Premier League’s Big Match, between Muang Thong United and Chonburi FC, was recently completed with no clear winner as the match ended in a tie. The two clubs will now have to compete in another three matches. Muang Thong has an advantage, as the remaining teams they face are not as tough as Chonburi FC. Meanwhile, another two FCs, in Chonburi, remain in a danger zone, as Pattaya United has some chance to remain viable, but Sriracha is given little chance to continue its journey on the road to champion.
The Big Match between Muang Thong United and Chonburi FC was held at Sriacha’s Thunder Dome Soccer Field and was this season’s 27th match for the Thai Premier League. The match attracted thousands of fans and more than two million baht was spent on tickets and souvenirs. Chonburi FC, the visiting team, started strong, as player Jetsadaporn Hemdaeng scored a goal within the first four minutes of the first half. Unfortunately, for Chonburi, Muang Thong’s Teerasilp Daengda scored on the 25th minute. The first half ended with a score of 1-1.

Nobody was able to score in the second half, resulting in a tie score of 1-all. Muang Thong is the top team, holding 56 points, while Chonburi is second with 55 points.
On Saturday, Pattaya United lost to Samuth Songkram, 1-0, holding 28 points and ranked 11th. Sri Racha FC beat BEC TERO, 4-2. Sriracha holds 21 points, remaining in the cellar.
Muang Thong United is in an advantageous position, as the opposing teams, Osotsapha, and Samuth Sakorn FCs are preoccupied with competing in another league, FA CUP, which is scheduled just one day before the Thai Premier League matches. In addition, BEC TERO will, undoubtedly, concentrate on the FA CUP if it stays alive in that competition.
On the other hand, Chonburi’s upcoming matches are, arguably, more challenging than Muang Thong’s, as its two opposition teams, Chula United and Rayong Navy, are trying hard to get out of the danger zone. Chonburi has a tough job ahead of it.
Chonburi FC is also at a disadvantage in the champion match under the Head-to-Head rules, which will be used in the case of the two FCs with the same number of points.
However, anything can happen and we will not know which team is champion until Sunday, October 18th.
