The Pattaya’s Maha Tai Foundation management recently conducted a training course for its officials and other relevant social and child organizations. The course’s purpose was to provide psychological counseling information to social and child related organizations’ management and officials so they can better provide consulting services to adults and children who have been mentally abused. The aim was to assist troubled adults and children to once again return to society and live happily, as well as, helping them protect themselves from the types of abuse they have suffered in the past.

Miss Sudchai Pakaian, Chief of Pramaha Tai Foundation, stated that many groups of people try to take advantage of youngsters, which results in their absorbing many antisocial behaviors. According to research, youngsters in the 12-18 year age group often are involved in inappropriate activities, especially of a sexual nature. This results from the fact that many of these children have never been properly instructed or provided with appropriate counseling. In light of this, the Pra Maha Tai Foundation decided to conduct this psychological training course for eleven social organizations located in Pattaya, such as Ban Jing Jai, the Father Ray Foundation and the Fountain of Life.

According to Professor Varakorn Sabviriyapakorn, of Burapha University’s Education Faculty, providing psychological counseling is part of the social sciences that studies and observes people in a scientific way. Psychology studies the process of thinking and behavior under clear and standard formats. Children are helped through listening, understanding and are provided counseling in as simple a manner as possible. This is so the clients can easily understand and apply the advice they are given. Children need to protect themselves and avoid risky situations.

Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome explained that psychological counseling enjoys widespread use in many countries as it is used to instruct and guide patients to solve and avoid problems. This service would surely be beneficial for children who have been abused physically and/or mentally.
