Police Station for Suvarnabhumi Airport gets the Green Light - police - Suvarnabhumi Airport - taxi drivers - tour guides - crime

A proposal to deal with unlicensed taxi drivers and tour guides, as well as, other criminal elements at Suvarnabhumi Airport by setting up a police station at the airport has recently been approved.

Police General Watcharapol Prasarnratchakij proposed the idea in hopes of making tourists feel more secure. There will be 280 police officers and approximately 1,000 security guards to assist the officers. Further discussions regarding budget and personnel will be held. It has been suggested that the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Airports of Thailand (AOT) help fund this project.

Suvarnabhumi Airport has been plagued with a variety of well-publicized problems from theft of baggage to the extortion of tourists. With only fifty officers from the Racha Thewa police station patrolling the gigantic facility, problems are likely to increase without the addition of a police station at the airport.
